The next “Step Up” film is all about flash mobs.

During the American Film Market this week, Summit Entertainment released the first poster and official synopsis for “Step Up 4” this week.

The film stars Kathryn McCormick (“So You Think You Can Dance,” “Fame”) and Ryan Guzman.

Here is the official synopsis:
“STEP UP 4” is the next installment in the worldwide smash STEP UP franchise, which sets the dancing against the vibrant backdrop of Miami. The crew, called the MOB, strives to win a contest for a major sponsorship opportunity, but soon Emily’s father threatens to develop the MOB’s historic neighborhood and displace thousands of people. Emily must band together with Sean and the MOB to turn their performance mobs into protest mobs, and risk losing their dreams to fight for a greater cause.

The film is directed by Scott Speer (“The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers”). The screenplay is penned by Jenny Mayer.

Harry Shum On The Five Best Things About The “Glee” Tour

Posted by admin with No Comments

Boston.com asked Harry Shum about the “5 Best Things About The “Glee” Tour” and one of them is of course The LXD.

1. Performing live for thousands of screaming fans. “We’re usually cooped up in a room [on set]. I toured with Beyoncé before, so I’ve gotten to experience that large crowd but this is cool because instead of us being in the background, people are cheering for us, which is mind-blowing.’’

2. Rock star perks. “You ask for things and they magically appear. The only thing I abuse it for is my love for certain sauces, like Sriracha. I’m a simple guy so little things like that make me happy.’’

3. Combining two worlds since LXD is opening the show. “Those are a lot of my friends and co-workers from the past. I assistant directed the LXD, so I’m back there helping out and making sure that’s all working before the show, and then I go into ‘Glee’ duties.’’

4. Interacting with fans. “It’s great to get feedback to hear what they love and what they don’t like.’’

5. Sightseeing. “You get paid to travel and see all these amazing places!’’

Breaking News: Jeremy Marinas NOT Returning for Season 3!

Posted by Beast575 with 1 Comment

It’s official. After Travis Wong asked on twitter if Jeremy Marinas (Justin Starr, “Antigravity Heroes“) had reprised his role in Season 3, Jeremy simply replied, “Nope.”  He did, however, express interest in returning, particularly to doing a live show. Jeremy has performed numerous times with the LXD since his last episode, and his storyline has several loose ends that need tying up. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we are in desperate need of a fourth season to wrap things up.

“Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” Out On DVD

Posted by Beast575 with 1 Comment

Yes, “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” is an essential for the LXD fan! I understand why you may be skeptical, but trust me–this is something you won’t want to miss! Why, you ask?

For starters, it was directed by the LXD’s writer, creator, director, and producer Jon M. Chu. He was successful in making this movie the highest-grossing concert movie in the world. The Justin Bieber movie also ranks third in the world’s highest grossing documentaries.

The film features fanboyz Straphonio “Shonnie” Solomon, Aja George, and Nick DeMoura as some of the lead dancers. And if that’s not good enough, you can spot LXD choreographer and performer Jonathan “Legacy” Perez and trickers Anis Cheurfa and Jeremy Marinas.

This DVD is chalk full of LXD goodness! Support the Legion of Extraordinary Dancers and pick up your copy today!

Jeremy Marinas and Tara Macken Cast in “Hunger Games”

Posted by Beast575 with No Comments

THE HUNGER GAMES will be directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Collins’ best-selling novel, which has over 3 million copies in print in the United States alone, is the first in a trilogy of science fiction/action novels which have developed a global following.

“The Hunger Games” chronicles a dystopic Capitol which requires its twelve subjugated districts to pay tribute in the form of a teenage boy and girl, forced to participate in the annual “Hunger Games,” a fight-to-the-death live televised event. Katniss Everdeen’s little sister is chosen in the lottery to participate and Katniss volunteers to take her place. Although persevering through hardship is commonplace for Katniss, she must start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love in order to win the games and return home.

LXD tricker Jeremy Marinas, known for playing the character of Justin Starr, has been cast in “The Hunger Games” as the Tribute Boy of District 10, recognized for his limp. Joining him is Tara Macken as Tribute Girl of District 4. Tara plays the lone female Ox member in the Season 2 episode, “The Greater of Two Evils.” Macken is one of the lesser known LXD individuals, so those unfamiliar with her work can check her out in her new training video below:

LXD Director Scott Speer to Direct Step Up 4

Posted by Beast575 with No Comments

Source: MovieLine

Attention, dance nerds! If you’ve been following the Jon M. Chu/Step Up/LXD crew like I have, you’ve got good reason to be excited for Paramount’s upcoming sequel, Step Up 4. First of all, it’s filming this summer, which puts it right on track for a 2012 release. And though pop choreographer extraordinaire Wade Robson had to drop out of the director’s chair, he’s being replaced by Scott Speer, a music video veteran and Chu compatriot who directed “Duet,” the most beautiful episode of Chu’s online dance series, The LXD. Watch a clip after the jump.

Deadline reported Speer’s hire on the sequel, which follows hit dance films Step Up, Step Up 2: The Streets, and Step Up 3D, a series that’s raked in a cumulative $415 million worldwide. Jon M. Chu, who directed the last two films in the series before moving on to the doc Justin Bieber: Never Say Never and Paramount’s upcoming G.I. Joe 2, will stay on board as executive producer.

This time around, the streetwise dance shenanigans go down in Miami. (Totally cheesy but appropriate title: Step Up 4Ever.) A Summit press release last November announced that the project will be released in 3-D, although details aren’t yet known on if the film will be shot in 3-D, as was the most recent installment. Given how well Step Up 3D’s visuals were executed, one hopes Speer will follow suit and not opt for a post conversion.

Scripting, casting, and choreography, however, are key; where Step Up 2: The Streets satisfied as the series best, Step Up 3D suffered from a weak script and its lead actors were overshadowed by the ensemble’s top-notch choreography. Newcomer Jenny Mayer has the sole credit writing Step Up 4, while cast and choreographers have yet to be named.

But with Speer and Chu at the helm, you can bet that the cast will be fleshed out with members of the Step Up/LXD family. And the franchise has a history of bringing back recurring fan favorite characters, so start lobbying your support for the return of folks like Moose (Adam G. Sevani), Cable (Harry Shum, Jr.), and — pretty please? — Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum).

Speer has also directed LXD episodes Tails of War and The Uprising Begins.
