Mass Update: 9/29/2011

Posted by Beast575 with No Comments

I’m sorry for the lack of updates, guys. I’ve been super busy. I wish I had time to put these all in their own posts, but for now they’re going to have to stay clumped together. Here are the major things going on in the LXD world that I’ve missed these past couple weeks:

LXD News

  • Mike Song (Umbra) posted some of the rehearsal footage of the dancers from the episode, “Reprogram.” Check it out HERE. The video features choreography by Mike Song and Kenneth “Free Boogie” Crawford, and is danced by Madd Chadd and Pandora, Umbras Brandon Phillips, Cassidy Noblett, H20, Taichi, JD McElroy and Jesse Morales, and Energies Free Boogie, Mike Song, Anthony Lee, and Tony Tran.

Keeping up with the LXD Dancers

I’ll try to come around more, and be more on top of my game. Hopefully there will be a few more posts up here in the next couple days!

“Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” Out On DVD

Posted by Beast575 with 1 Comment

Yes, “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” is an essential for the LXD fan! I understand why you may be skeptical, but trust me–this is something you won’t want to miss! Why, you ask?

For starters, it was directed by the LXD’s writer, creator, director, and producer Jon M. Chu. He was successful in making this movie the highest-grossing concert movie in the world. The Justin Bieber movie also ranks third in the world’s highest grossing documentaries.

The film features fanboyz Straphonio “Shonnie” Solomon, Aja George, and Nick DeMoura as some of the lead dancers. And if that’s not good enough, you can spot LXD choreographer and performer Jonathan “Legacy” Perez and trickers Anis Cheurfa and Jeremy Marinas.

This DVD is chalk full of LXD goodness! Support the Legion of Extraordinary Dancers and pick up your copy today!

LXD Season 1 & 2 Available Now & Jon Chu Interview with Deadbolt

Posted by admin with No Comments

The LXD: Season 1 and 2 is available on DVD today! Make sure to get a copy, you can order from Amazon.com for $14.99

Also, Deadbolt has a new interview with Jon M. Chu. Jon talks Justin Bieber, GI Joe 2 and of course LXD. Below is an excerpt of him talking about LXD, but read the rest at the site.

THE DEADBOLT: Since LXD didn’t rely on dialogue to tell the story, was that a comfort or a challenge as a director?
JON CHU:
It was both. It was a give and take. We wanted to push the idea that dance was our main mode of communication in these shorts. In these pieces, when you put them together, when you have a complicated origin story of a super hero, it’s a little more difficult to get some of the plot things out. So you need a little bit of dialogue here and there. Each episode kind of changed it up to how much dance and how much dialogue you use. Some we don’t use any dialogue and some we use a lot. Sometimes you have to read.

We actually play with the idea, because to me the whole thing is an experiment to see how far we can push dance and see where we’ll make mistakes. Sometimes it won’t work and we’ll pull back a little bit. Sometimes it’ll be too long or too short and this is a whole process to find a new voice of how dance and story telling can be together in a more organic way. So it’s like a freeing opportunity to play in different ways and we haven’t dedicated ourselves to one way of doing it.

THE DEADBOLT: The Robot Love Story was just amazing. That was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. What were the keys to making that work so effectively?
CHU:
Thank you. Well, that was a process. At first I really wanted to do a film noir. I wanted to do it in a sort of silent movie style but in a modern way. We’d do a silent movie and Mad Chad, our Robot guy, and Pandora who plays Autumn in it, their style is so intricate that you can’t have a lot of movement with their dance. The camera really just has to sit there and let them paint the poetry for you.

Their style really dictated how we were going to tell the story. The fact it was a love story between these two, or sort of a past love story, was something that we saw as kind of balletic in a way. Their style really dictated how we were going to tell the story, which almost every episode it’s the dancer and their style and how they express. A lot of time we’ll put them in the dance room and say, “Okay, we want to tell a story of a husband and wife who don’t remember each other but had a past relationship. How would you guys communicate that?” We turn on music and just let them communicate it and freestyle. From that we’ll write down the things that really move us. That’s how we sort of get into each of those episodes. So that episode actually came from a lot of that

Jon M. Chu to Direct GI Joe Sequel

Posted by Beast575 with 1 Comment

Deadline reports that LXD Director/Creator Jon M. Chu has been selected to direct the sequel to the blockbuster hit, “GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra,” which grossed over $300,000,000 worldwide. The first film had Channing Tatum cast as the lead character. Tatum starred in the first “Step Up,” movie, and later appeared in “Step Up 2: The Streets,” the first film that Jon Chu ever directed and also featured numerous LXD members. Paramount Pictures is currently trying to work out a deal for him to come back in “GI Joe 2.” Other actors may have to be recast, including parts played by Sienna Miller and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

This will be Chu’s first action film, and in fact, will be his first large-scale project that involves absolutely no dancing. We congratulate you, Chu, and wish you the best of luck!
